Course curriculum

Module 1

Gain an appreciation of what AI is and isn't capable of and the difficulties of AI policymaking amidst global uncertainty and power imbalances.

Module 2

Explore analogous national strategies for policy development and the influence of various institutions on these approaches.

Module 3

Examine the AI Act’s position within different models of AI regulation and governance.

Module 4

Gain an understanding of the design, deployment, and governance requirements for high-risk AI systems as mandated by the AI Act.

Module 5

Discover different approaches to AI regulation, focusing on risk-based alternatives and jurisdiction-specific frameworks.

Andrew Murray

Professor of Law, LSE Law School

Professor Andrew Murray is a legal scholar specialising in New Media and Technology Law at the LSE. As director of the LSE Law, Society and Technology Group, he has contributed to research and policy discussions on digital regulation. Murray has advised governmental bodies, including the House of Lords Communications Committee and the Government of Saudi Arabia, and delivered academic lectures such as the 2020 TMC Asser Lecture.

Associate Dean (Strategic Development), MPA in Data Science for Public Policy Programme Director, LSE School of Public Policy

Professor Alexander Evans directs the LSE's Professional Skills Accelerator and the MPA in Data Science for Public Policy, teaching graduate courses on international diplomacy, technology, and policy-making. Evans has an extensive background in diplomatic service, working in key roles across the British government, including as an Adviser to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street and Director Cyber in the Foreign Office.

Dr Ayse Gizem Yasar

Assistant Professor (Education), LSE Law School

Professor Ayse Gizem joined the LSE Law School in 2023, specialising in AI regulation, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She teaches competition law and information technology law, bringing extensive international academic experience from Sciences Po in Paris and the University of Glasgow's CREATe Centre. Her current research focuses on EU innovation policy, competition in the video game industry, and artificial intelligence regulation.
